description=© ALPHA Simulations 2004\n\nSukhoi Su-47 'Berkut'\n\nThe Su-47 (or S-37) is an experimental fighter technology demonstrator built to validate and gain experience with various technology advances (particularly the forward swept wings) which could be incorporated into a fifth generation Sukhoi fighter. The 'Berkut' or 'Golden Eagle'  has extremely high agility at subsonic speeds enabling the aircraft to alter its angle of attack and its flight path very quickly, and it also retains manoeuvrability in supersonic flight. It first flew in September 1997 and completed the first stage of flight trials in December 2001.
